Helping our Girls run towards success
Girls on the Run of Northern Virginia (GOTR NOVA) supports girls in developing the confidence and character they need to become strong, healthy young women using a unique, research-based after school program which creatively integrates running. The program is delivered over a 10-week season by trained volunteer coaches who guide and mentor 8-13 year old girls through a rich curriculum including lessons on positive self talk, healthy friendships, nutrition, and gratitude. GOTR NOVA is one of the largest independent affiliates of Girls on the Run International, serving nearly 5,000 girls each year across Northern Virginia. Since 2000, GOTR NOVA has directly served more than 50,000 girls.
While Northern Virginia is a largely affluent region, poverty impacts a significant and growing number of families, felt ever more acutely by children. Children experiencing poverty are less likely to participate in team sports and more likely to deal with maturing stressors in a negative way. GOTR NOVA offers programing at 24 out of the 91 Title I schools in Northern Virginia; we want to expand to serve all girls in need in our region. With your support, GOTR NOVA can continue to support our current Title I school partners while also conducting outreach to help serve more girls in need.
Donations will help underwrite financial assistance - which covers up to 85% of the program fee for families in need - as well as the support which make it possible to offer GOTR NOVA in under resourced communities. This includes training and screening of volunteer coaches, purchase of program materials, and outreach to school leaders.
And remember that we will donate to this amazing organization on your behalf! Simply recommend us to a friend or family member!
